What is Milk Paint? For What is It Intended?
Milk paint is made today with the same basic organic ingredients used for the past hundreds of years: milk protein, lime and earth pigments. The look and feel of a surface painted today with milk paint is no different than what is found on furniture, walls and floors in country houses of centuries past in Europe, Colonial homes and buildings in America.

Genuine milk paint is technically a calcium-caseinate meaning that it is made from milk protein (casein), lime (calcium) and mineral or earth pigments. Late in the history of milk paint other chemicals were added (formaldehyde, borax, and recently synthetic plastics such as acrylics, vinyls or acetates). Such formulations change the nature of milk paint to produce a quality paint but are not a true milk paint. Genuine milk paint is 'green', non-toxic, odorless and environmentally friendly.
A milk paint finish may be textured with a stria pattern or may be absolute smooth. The nature of milk paint is perfect for creating old world finish appearance that of an antique. A worn aged finish may be accomplished with ease employing either wet or dry light sanding. Unlike acrylic paint which is sticking in sanding, milk paint is like a 'chalk' and when sand produces a beautiful smooth finish. Multiple and various finish coat products add to the aged appearance.
